What is the Yuva 2.0 scheme for writers ?

The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education of India has launched the Yuva 2.0 scheme for young writers with the aim of promoting reading, writing and book culture in the country and presenting India and Indian writing at the global level.

 This 2.0 scheme is an ambitious scheme of the Prime Minister to mentor young writers. This scheme has been started on 2nd October 2022 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti to train budding writers (below 30 years of age).

 Considering the remarkable impact of the first edition of Yuva with massive participation of young and budding writers in 22 different Indian languages ​​and English, Yuva 2.0 is now being launched.

What will the writers benefit from the Yuva 2.0 scheme ?

The launch of the Yuva 2.0 scheme for writers (young, emerging and multi-talented writers) is in line with the Prime Minister's vision to encourage youth to understand and appreciate India's democracy.

 Yuva 2.0 scheme, a part of India@75 project (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) which seeks to bring an innovative approach to the young generation of writers on the theme 'Democracy (Institutions, Events, People, Constitutional Values ​​- Past, Present, Future)' and in a creative way. 

Thus, the scheme will help in developing a stream of writers who can write on various subjects to promote Indian heritage, culture and knowledge system.

Does Yuva 2.0 Scheme for Writers emphasize on creativity ?

The Central Government's National Education Policy 2020 has emphasized on the empowerment of youth and creating an ecosystem of learning that prepares young readers/learners for leadership roles in the world of the future.

 India is at the forefront of youth population. The youth population in our country is 66 percent of the total population. This population is waiting to be included in the work of capacity building and thus nation building. 

There is an urgent need to take initiatives at the highest level, aimed at guiding a new generation of young creative writers. Thus, the Yuva 2.0 scheme for writers will go a long way in building the foundation for the future leaders of the creative world.

Who will publish the books of Yuva 2.0 scheme ?

The National Book Trust, India, under the Ministry of Education, has been selected as the implementing agency of the Yuva 2.0 scheme for young writers. This will ensure a phased implementation of the scheme under well defined phases of mentorship.

 The books prepared under this scheme will be published by National Book Trust, India and will be translated into other Indian languages ​​ensuring exchange of culture and literature. This scheme will promote 'Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat'. 

 The special thing is that under this scheme the selected young writers will interact with some of the best writers of the world, participate in literary festivals etc.

What is the rank of India in the field of book publishing ?

It is pertinent to mention that the Yuva 2.0 scheme for young writers will help develop a stream of writers who can write on various aspects of India's democracy covering the past, present and future. 

In addition, the scheme will also pave a way for aspiring youth to express themselves and present a broader vision of Indian democratic values ​​in domestic and international fora. The scheme is envisaged under the premise that there is a need to create a generation of young writers to make 21st century India the ambassadors of Indian literature. 

Considering the fact that our country ranks third in the field of book publishing and we have a wealth of indigenous literature, India should present it at the global level.

Important points of the program of Yuva 2.0 scheme

  1. Scheme Announcement Date 2nd October 2022
  2. A total of 75 authors will be selected through an all India competition to be organized through https://www.mygov.in/ during 2nd October 2022 to 30th November 2022.
  3. The proposals received will be evaluated during 1st December 2022 to 31st January 2023.
  4. The winners will be announced on 28 February 2023.
  5. Young writers will be trained by eminent writers/consultants from 1st March 2023 to 31st August 2023.
  6. Under the mentorship, the first set of published books will be launched on 2 October 2023.
